Last week, I decided to take the entire day and exhaust our fun-meters. I woke Jacob up early. Well, 7:00 is early when school is out for the summer. We went to the Egg for breakfast. Yum, yum. Then off to the zoo.
We love the zoo, especially in the early mornings, when the animals are out, playing or eating or whatever. This time of day has the most activty and it is the most fun.
After a couple of hours, and about 7,000 steps, its' time to go to the next place, the mall. This is a lot of fun because at 11:00, they have $1 movies, entertainment just for kids. We watched Shrek 4. Very funny movie. I love listening to Jacob's laugh, he's got a great laugh.
Then off to lunch. You'd think that after popcorn and cokes, he's be full, but he is a boy. A boy with a hollow leg. We found the perfect place to sit down for a lunch date. The food court. Complete with old cars that had booths in them. That was pretty neat. Jacob picked out the red one and we had kids meals from Chick-fil-A. Again, yum.
Jacob yacked on and on about the movie. "Mom, did you see when Shrek and Fiona..."
"Mom, it was really funny when Donkey said..."
"Mom, did you see how fat the cat was? It was so funny."
I could hardly believe he had the strength to finish his meal. But, kids can do that, with energy to spare.
Next, we went swimming at the city pool. Suncreen lathered, we got there just in time for the sun to peak. It was hot but the cool water was a relief. Jacob slid down the slides, over and over. He dove off the diving board. He floated in the lazy river. Several hours later, he was finally ready to go. It was early evening, and Jacob looked bushed. He asked for Pink Swirl, and, since it was just down the road, I agreed.
We got into the car and the funniest thing happened. Jacob rolled his head to the side and promptly fell asleep. Yes, he was out. He didn't even get his belt buckled. I laughed, in spite of myself, and reached over to click the buckle in place.
It worked: he crashed, and I started home. I emptied his fun-meter.
After we reached the house, I got him to his bed and didn't even take off his swimsuit. He was comfortable in his bed, and I went to the recliner and fell asleep.
The next morning, I noticed that I has not moved from the recliner and Jacob was standing in front of me, swimsuit on, movie card in hand, and teeth brushed. He said, "Okay Mom, I'm ready to go again." His meter reset overnight. It's th
