In my family, most of the birthdays fall in two months, May and July. Today is Jacob's Aunt Lynn's birthday. I asked him to call her and sing the birthday song. He took the phone and did as I asked. But when the call was over, he slumped in his chair and said, "Mom, is this the last one?"
I didn't know what he meant, so I said, "Jacob, the last what?"
He said, "You know! The birthday song. I am SO tired of singing that song. I have to do it everyday and my voice is tired of singing. Aunt Lynn is too old to for me to sing it to her."
I laughed and reminded him that we always take time to wish someone a Happy Birthday because that is a very special day in their lives.
He replied, "Mom, when you get old, you don't want birthdays. That means you are almost dead.
At least he gets it.
